Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report 9-7-2017

By Steve Blake

Current water level is 708.56 and falling surface water temp is 75 degrees.

Fishing has been pretty good this week with crappie, cats, and whites and hybrids all on the bite.

We are finding crappie this week schooled up on brush piles on main lake flats in 10 to 17 feet of water. Fishing minnows at the top of the brush has yielded several limits this week in the dam and Sterett Creek Areas. If the fish are on a pile you can weed thru the little ones and expect to take fish in the 10 to 12 inch size range. If you do not get bit in 5 minutes on a pile move to another. Once you find a productive pile it will have several fish on it.

I have also found a couple of large schools of white bass and small hybrids this week. They are on humps in 10 to 18 feet of water and are being caught jigging a 1/2 ounce Bob bates spoon off the bottom. The whites are not on every hump but if you find them they are schooled up in big numbers and willing to bite. A couple of days this week we were able to limit out in less than an hour. Fish are running in the 1 to 2 pound size range with some of the small hybrids at 3 to 4 pounds.

Cats both blues and channels are being taken at the dam fishing cut shad on the bottom in 15 to 30 feet of water. This has been a really good bite with lots of limits being taken. Fish the flats on either side of the weir wall.

The cooler water has the large mouth moving shallow to the secondary points as they stage to move back in the creeks for the fall feed up. Pop r's and black buzz baits are producing all day long. Most fish are small but a lot of action.

That's it for this week see ya at Sterett Creek Marina!!!!
