Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report 10-27-2017

By Steve Blake

Current water level is 709.16 and water surface temp is 66 degrees.

The cold front this week will put the fish well into the fall feed-up patterns. Crappie will be more concentrated on the bluffs on the lower lake near the dam than they already are and the whites and hybrids will hit the windy chunk rock banks better than last week.

With this weeks cold front we should see water temps get into the high 50's or low 60's that is going to trigger some great action next week when the weather warms some for the whites and hybrids. We have already had some great days fishing windy chunk rock banks and coves one to four feet deep throwing small shad colored in line spinners like the Blue Fox, and Rooster tail in 1/4 ounce size for whites. The hybrids have been best on a medium chrome and black Pop R on these same type banks. Bare banks with no timber have been best for me. We have stayed pretty much in the dam and Osage Bluff areas. The best days so far have been cloudy windy days but with the cooler water temps to come the fall feed-up for whites and hybrids should keep them shallow on any day until the water temp falls below the 50 degree mark. The next few weeks will be the best white bass and hybrid action of the year.

Crappie have been good on the lower lake bluffs and should get better as the water temp falls. 1/4 ounce Bob Bates shorty jigs rigged with Swarm Jigs in pink and white or chartreuse and black fished just off the bottom in 15 to 25 feet of water have been best on the bluff fish. You have to feel out the right depth each day. Once you get bit slow down they have been somewhat schooled up. The long pole timber bite on the flats way up the rivers has slowed with the recent 3 foot rise in water level. The rise has covered most of the good stumps, trees, and fence rows.

I have not had any reports on cats this week if you are into the cats gimme a buzz and I will post it.

Large mouth bass and spotted bass continue to be good in the backs of the coves on a variety of top waters, but a lot of small fish in the 12 to 16 inch size range.

That's it for this week. Next week temps are in the high 50's to mid 60's so if you want to get in on the action call me at 660-525-0692.

The marina will be open thru November 5th. It has been a great year at Sterett Creek Marina as Ken and Cathy and the crew continue to improve the facility for your outings whether it be camping or fishing. I want to say THANK YOU to all of you who follow my fishing report and to all of my great customers for making this year a true pleasure!!!!! See ya at Sterett Creek Marina!!!!!
