All Facilities are CLOSED Spring will be here SOON !! Winter Crappie Update What I am doing this winter on a trial basis is offering a half day six hour winter crappie fishing trip for two people for the special rate of $150.00 per day flat rate and I cover the fuel. I will take up to three people but there will be an additional charge of $50.00 for the third person. I can furnish all rods and tackle if you desire, or you can bring your own. Kind of a good news bad news report this week. I have guided 4 days in the past week, and we took between 30 and 45 crappie on all four days. That may sound like it is a great bite right now, but to be honest we had to be very patient, and work for every fish. We are only keeping 10 inch or better crappie.
Water temps have risen 3 degrees from 39 to 42 in the past 4 days, and I really feel that the fish have already begun to move from their main lake haunts to the creeks in a small way. The crappie are very scattered now as evidenced by the many different places we have been able to catch fish.
This week we have taken fish on the bluffs at depths of 30 to 40 feet right on the bottom, as well as taking fish from brush piles on both the main lake, and about half way back in the major creeks at depths ranging from 12 to 20 feet on the lower end of the lake near the dam. We also have been able to take some really good fish in the 12 to 13 inch size range in 13 to 17 feet of water right on the bottom near brush along creek channel drops half way back in the coves.
All of the fish we have taken this week have come vertical jigging a 1/4 ounce pink jighead with a pink and white body. However I really do feel that color is NOT as vital in catching fish as being at the right depth for the area you are fishing. Other anglers are having sucess with blue and white, black and chartruse, solid white, and brown and orange. When you find brush concentrate on keeping your jig just barely over the top of the pile that is where the feeding fish will be.
Like I said good news bad news. SCATTERED !!!!! is the word for the crappie right now. To be sucessful stay on the move till you catch a fish or two, then slow down and work the area very slowly. The less action you put on the jig the better your results will be. Be patient once you locate fish. We took 16 fish on one brush pile yesterday morning all of which were 11 to 13 inches, but it took an hour and a half to do it. Be PATIENT!!!
I have heard reports from the Windsor Crossing area of a decent crappie bite, and also have heard there is a crappie bite back in the major creeks right in the middle of the channels in the Bucksaw area.
Not much to report this week on catfish from Truman as not many catfishermen out, but have seen some really big blues coming from The Lake Of the Ozarks in the past two weeks on shad.
The bass bite here on Truman in the Dam Area for those who have been out has been pretty decent. Jerkbaits in shad or chartruse patterns fished on main lake and secondary points are producing some really nice fish in the 2 to 4 pound size range. Saw two anglers yesterday boat 3 nice fish from one point, and 4 more from the next point down the bank, all in about 45 minutes.
I really do feel with the forecast of 45 to 55 degree temps for the next 10 days to two weeks that we will start seeing more and more good crappie show up half way to all the way back in the creeks, and the bass bite shoud stay strong on jerkbaits. Hope to see ya on the water!!
