Fishing Report

5-18-2013

This week there is a little bit of everything going on.

Fishing is consistent, but none of the species are as yet doing what you would call a fantastic bite.

There are white bass, a few hybrids, and some nice crappie on the wier.

Fish the front dropoff of the weir in front of either rock point on the dam at depths of 18 to 27 feet with 1/2 ounce spoons, or 1/4 ounce jigs.

Best bite is very early, and very late in the day.

The whites and hybrids have not shown up in mass anywhere else as yet, and believe me I have been looking hard.

Seems like everything is a month behind this year.

There are some really nice crappie being taken all over the lake on minnows fished at the mouths of the timbered coves in 15 to 30 feet of water around the trees fishing 10 to 15 feet down.

I wouldn't call this a super bite, but if you work at it for the day a nice mess of 12 to even 15 inch crappie is to be had in some areas way up the lake in all arms.

For numbers of crappie the lower lake area near Sterett Creek in the Tebo and Little Tebo Arms is the best bet.

Concentrate on hedge and big hardwoods for the best bite.

Cedars just do not seem to be holding many fish yet.

The bass bite has improved with topwaters, jigs, soft plastics, and crankbaits all producing.

Fish are in 2 to 8 feet of water all over the lake.

Keep the trolling motor down and fish hard.

We had a 9 pound largemouth caught near Sterett Creek this week.

Catfish on jugs baited with perch are fair with some 5 to 10 pound blues coming in.

Set jugs 8 feet deep in 10 to 20 feet of water on main lake flats.

The lake is falling about a half a foot a day.

Surface water temps are form 66 to 72 degrees.

Hope this helps everyone catch some fish in the great weather we have coming this weekend!!!

See ya at Sterett Creek Marina!!!!.
